Dr. Bethany Serafin Awalt is a board-certified oral & maxillofacial surgeon known for a calm, compassionate approach and a commitment to keeping patients informed and comfortable throughout their care.


Dr. Awalt earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology, graduating magna cum laude, then completed her dental education at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. She trained in oral & maxillofacial surgery at Woodhull Medical Center, part of the NYC Health and Hospitals System, where she gained extensive experience in complex surgical care and anesthesia.


With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Awalt provides a full range of oral & maxillofacial surgical services, including tooth extractions, dental implants, bone grafting, management of oral pathology, and outpatient anesthesia. She is committed to patient safety and takes the time to explain treatment options clearly, answer questions thoroughly, and tailor care to each individual’s needs.


In addition to private practice, Dr. Awalt has served as a clinical instructor and professor at several universities, helping train future dentists and surgeons. She remains active in her profession through leadership roles in local and regional societies, including the Maryland State Oral and Maxillofacial Society, and currently serves as an Anesthesia Evaluator for the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners. She also holds hospital privileges at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore.


Dr. Awalt has been recognized as a Baltimore Magazine Top Dentist for many years and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. She has participated in international surgical missions providing care to underserved communities and remains committed to giving back through local volunteer dental programs.

Neil Charnowitz, DDS

Dr. Neil Charnowitz is an oral & maxillofacial surgeon providing comprehensive, evidence-based surgical care to patients throughout the greater Baltimore area, with a strong emphasis on comfort, safety, and clear communication at every stage of treatment.


Born and raised in Woodmere, New York, Dr. Charnowitz earned his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Yeshiva University and his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, where he was recognized for academic excellence and inducted into multiple honor societies. He completed his residency in oral & maxillofacial surgery at Broward Health Medical Center, in affiliation with Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, serving as Chief Resident in his final year.


Dr. Charnowitz offers the full scope of oral & maxillofacial surgery, including wisdom tooth removal and surgical extractions, dental implant placement, bone grafting and sinus augmentation, the evaluation and management of oral pathology, maxillofacial trauma, and corrective jaw surgery. He also provides office-based anesthesia services, including IV sedation and general anesthesia, allowing patients to receive advanced surgical care in a safe and comfortable outpatient setting.


In addition to private practice, Dr. Charnowitz holds hospital appointments as an on-call attending physician at Sinai Hospital–LifeBridge Health and Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center. He remains active academically as Dean’s Faculty in the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Department at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, regularly lecturing on implant surgery, sinus augmentation, facial trauma, anesthesia safety, and maxillofacial infections.


Dr. Charnowitz is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS), a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS), and a member of the Maryland Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (MSOMS), the Mid-Atlantic Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (MASOMS), the Maryland State Dental Association (MSDA), and the American Dental Association (ADA).


Outside of surgery, Dr. Charnowitz enjoys spending time with his wife, Gabby, and their four children—JJ, Lilly, Cooper, and Asher—and staying active through volleyball, pickleball, and swimming. He is known for his distinctive necktie collection, a personal touch to his professional style.
